Growing up, I was sure of one thing and one thing only-- having fun and being with friends was the core of my existence. I thought, "What better way to do that than through the unity of team sports??!!". As a kid, I gave soccer and basketball my best efforts, but contact sports were not for me. It was volleyball and track and field that filled my cup. I fell in love with the camaraderie and community that each sport gave me. While improving my skills and being competitive was at the heart of the sport, my purpose always felt like It was to help my teammates. This feeling led me to pursue a career at Bridgewater State University in Athletic Training: a healthcare professional specializing in the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses in sports. In this role, I have treated athletes from the adult professional level all the way down to toddler t-ball! It's been so rewarding to help athletes reach their goals, even when they didn't think It was possible!
In high school, I dedicated much of my time to improving my volleyball skills so I could play at the collegiate level. Hard work paid off when I made the BSU Volleyball roster. At that moment all of my dreams had come true! Two weeks into my freshman year season, my coach saw how hard I was working to earn my spot as a starter. The day came and I was given the opportunity to shine. In what I thought was the best showing of my career, nearing the end of the fifth set, I jumped up to make a block at the net and came crashing down to a torn ACL and Meniscus. Just like that my volleyball career was over. What I didn't realize though, is that my career had actually just begun. With the help of the most amazing Athletic Trainer, Physical Therapist, and Strength coaches, I became the strongest and most resilient version of myself. From that day forward I knew I wanted to help others the way that they helped me.
I love showing people that no skill or goal is out of reach. Strength training offers a plethora of exercises and modifications, and there is something for everyone. There's no better feeling than watching your client succeed and build resilience, toughness, and the confidence to keep going!
